Should you get a new puppy

An awfully lot has been, written and is preached , on the importance of doing your homework on what type, breed of dog would be most suitable for your
home and family.

Dog professionals, whether they are trainers, behaviorists,
veterinarians or dog rescue personal are always stressing that you must ,
research, research, research before choosing a dog breed to buy.

I'm here to tell you that if you have to do research into what would be
the best fit, breed wise for your family. Forget about it.
Maybe a dog, really shouldn't be in your future.

A person that understands animals would never even bother, with
researching a specific breed of dog.
Because they know one simple undeniable truth.

A DOG IS A DOG....

So if your doing research on what type of dog to buy, that is your first pretty big clue, that you really should not get a dog.

The following are some very alarming facts from
The American Humane Association.

  • 4.5 Million Dog Attacks a Year
  • 70% of All Victims are Children
  • Children Under 10, are the most frequently attacked
  • 58% of all Human Deaths, happen on the owners property
And you better make sure you have a good homeowners policy.
According to statistics provided by the Insurance Companies.

  • One-Third of all insurance claims, are dog bite related.
So, you would have to agree that this is pretty solid evidence that it doesn't
matter what breed of dog it is. Because its still a dog.

Quick Tip for Housebreaking

Just a quick note, to help you with your first important training hurdle. Housebreaking.
Your little guy is going to have to relieve himself, every two or three hours. Since we usually don't have the luxury of staying home all day, to do this. There are some simple rules, we have to follow.
  1. If you have a crate divider in his crate, take it out right now.
  2. You don't want him having so little space, that when he does go to the bathroom. He has to sit in it until you come home. That would be very bad.
  3. If you have the space, get him a puppy pen. And line the entire pen with newspaper. This will make your life so much easier ,if you don't have to crawl into a crate to clean it.
  4. Clean, Clean, Clean, Clean, Clean. Every time you see soiled papers, replace them. Your not the only one that doesn't like that mess.
  5. Since our goal is to get him to go to the bathroom outside. Take him out a lot. Don't say you'll do it in a couple minutes. In a couple of minutes, it will be to late.

I will have some more stuff for you guys on housebreaking. Right now I'm going crazy, trying to build two different dog training web-sites. Using whats suppose to be real simple site builder tools.Yeah Right! Simple for somebody that has a clue. That wouldn't be me.

If any body out there would be nice enough to donate their time to help build these sites, please e-Mail me, or post me.

Thank Youuuuuu. The Spirit Dog

Life after almost death OR how dog trainers almost killed me

These are just of few photo's of the Spirit Dogs family. These dogs are alive and happy today, for one reason, and one reason alone, us. Each and every one of them were going to be killed, because the owners didn't understand them. And unfortunately the dog trainers or animal behaviorists, that they hired.Couldn't help them no more, than I could help out somebody fix a Jet engine. Another words, they really didn't have the experience or knowledge, to adequately help the pet owners out. Not to mention, the sad fate of the animals that their suppose to be helping out.
If you have ever hired an trainer or behaviorist, and one of the first things they tell you is, "You have an Alpha dog, and he's trying to dominate you". Thank him or her very much, pay them for their time, and get them out of your house as fast as possible. Regardless of how much experience they like to tell you they have, they truly DON'T have any clue about canine behavior.

A Happy Pet,, And Family Starts Here

Did you know that one of the reasons for turmoil and general unhappiness in our home can be caused by our pet dog. That's right, little Fido can reek havoc on our families life, and general well being, if hes not taught some very simple rules, while hes still a puppy.
It is much easier to teach your little guy, your household rules when hes still little. Not because of that old saying, "you cant teach old dogs new tricks". But because, as he reaches the ages of 5, 6, 7, months of age, now he is a much larger size. The significance of this increased size is that we might start becoming nervous around him. Yeah I now it might sound hard to believe, but I have seen this exact same thing thousands of times.
All of those puppy things your little guy was doing when he was 2, 3, 4 months of age, and you thought was absolutely adorable, does not seem so adorable now that he weighs 60 or 70 pounds. Now it just pisses us off.
So the first piece of advice I am going to give you on how to have a happy and relaxed dog is, make him part of your family. Everybody spends tons of time with the NEW puppy they get. The problems start surfacing, as the puppy gets a little older and we begin getting a little tired of our new toy.
So, whats the most important thing we can do, that will give us a great start to having a dog that's a joy to be around ? That's right! Just spend time with him.
